About the party
In sacred texts, Vara means a fenced-off refuge. That was the name of the shelter built by Yima, the first man and keeper of the golden age, when Ahriman sent winter upon the world. Inside the Vara, people, seeds and fire were preserved to wait for the light to return. Keeping our inner warmth on the eve of winter, we will build our own Vara, where we'll sink into the slow flow of ambient and drone music.
The evening's headliner is Ambient Fields — the music project of American guitarist and dombra player Jeff Gersh, who currently lives in Almaty, where he is deeply studying the dombra and the rich musical traditions of the Kazakh kuy.
